I'm not feeling well. A couple of times today I've become really lightheaded and my head has started to throb. I also had the weird experience whilst out shopping earlier of being able to hear the shop assistant talking but her voice sounding really distant. Does anyone know what this could be? I've tried eating something as I thought it could be low blood sugar, but it's still happening. I'm also still really hungry, despite just having had ham, egg and chips for dinner.

It actually could be a sign of anxiety. Mention this to your doctor has it could be connected. Low blood pressure can also cause lightheadedness.

If it was my shunt, I'd be puking and I'm not, so I don't think it's that. If it happens again I'll call those nice people at NHS Direct.

I would be asking my doctor's advice on this as it could be a number of things, not necssarily serious. A rush in blood pressure, blood sugar levels, all treatable.

I'm seeing the diabetes nurse on Wednesday so I'll ask her advice.

Are you diabetic? Well that meal of ham egg and chips might have a lot to do with it but if it's down to food, you will have needed to be eating a lot of the wrong stuff for a while for it to do that.

It's not uncommon though, if you are feeling anxious or stressed, for your blood pressure to suddenly soar. That can make you light-headed too. Mine shoots up from time to time, especially if I have a hospital appointment, and makes me almost pass out. It's scary but if you can find out what is making you feel like that then you can have some control over it.

Your diabetic nurse should do all the relevent tests to check up on that side of things and if they are at all concerned, they will ask your doctor to see you, who should hopefully give you the correct medication to help.

Hi Gracie. I do eat healthily most of the time, and the ham, egg and chips was a treat for me.

Good advice there Gracie, and also Jo try and eat meals regularily!....Also maybe buy some Lucozade tablets from your chemist, and if you feel yourself 'dipping' then suck on one of these!...Try too not to have too many sweet things, and never miss your breakfast!...
