I've finally got an appointment to see the diabetes dietician at my local hospital! I've been Type 2 diabetic for 7 years and although I saw a dietician when I was first diagnosed, I haven't seen her since and confess to having lost my way a bit with regard to what I can and can't eat. It will be helpful to get her guidance and support and answers to some of the questions I've got, so that hopefully I can get back on the right track again.

Are you on Metformin Jo?.....

Try and eat a healthy diet, and don't go wasting your money on the diabetic foods!....
Maybe also ask your doctor if you can have a blood sugar testing kit,and then you can keep a check and it is something to show them when you go again!..Maybe do it for a while before breakfast, then dinner and tea!..Your readings will fluctuate during the day!...But I am sure they will advice you on all this as that is what they are there for!....Good Luck....

Yes, one tablet twice a day.

I don't touch diabetic foods as I'm bowel incontinent and most diabetic foods contain an ingredient that acts as a laxative!

I've got a blood testing kit but I confess to not using it very much because I get confused about when's best to test my blood and what level my blood should be at at certain times of the day. I'm hoping the dietician can help me understand this.

Your bloods will vary during the day,and naturally depending on what you eat!..The ideal readings are between 4-7 so use this as a guide!..
And maybe as I previously said that maybe you could for a few days just do a reading before your breakfast, then alternate it before the other two meals!...Naturally go with what your dietician says, but it would be good if you could do a few readings before you went so he/she can see at a glance how you are during the day!...
